Minnesota Power is seeking an Assistant Engineer I to join its Distribution System Engineering team to offer administrative, graphic, and technical support to engineers. As an assistant engineer at Minnesota Power, your work will have an impact on climate, customers, and communities. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Utilize various computer programs and software essential for designing distribution system lines.
Conduct field work which may include site visits, job staking, photographing, and information gathering.
Communicate with customers, contractors, consultants, and internal departments to coordinate project details, address inquiries, and provide updates to ensure everyone is aligned with project goals and timelines.
Ensure accurate and timely updates of records while managing projects and budgets to involve maintaining precise documentation, tracking project progress, and overseeing financial aspects to ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget.
Assure that all work complies with company, industry, and regulatory standards, encompassing documentation, estimate preparation, and field technical support.
Work with regulatory compliance and governing entities for permitting design plans.
May act as a resource to promote the effective and efficient use of equipment and systems.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent PLUS course work in accounting, computers, electricity, drafting, or related field is required.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
No experience required.
Utility or project management experience is strongly preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position will report regularly in person to Pine River, MN.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as some travel may be required.
Familiarity with the local service area and commitment to community involvement is preferred but not required.
Proficiency in using computers and other technology, including the ability to quickly learn new software and effectively operate devices like iPads.
Strong performance and communication skills are essential for building and maintaining productive relationships with both internal and external customers.
Requires the capability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Able to work effectively in both office settings and field locations all year long.
This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.
The expected hourly compensation range for this position is $22.60 - $27.40. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
