Research Assistant I - School of Public Health (Finance)

Position Summary:

Under supervision, will assist Principal Investigator in research to develop genome editing tools for vector control utilizing fruit flies and mosquitoes.

Position Key Accountabilities:

Drosophila work-- he/she will be responsible of maintaining DrosophilaI and mosquito lines; using a stereo microscope, perform routine fruit fly work (sort flies, set up crosses, transfer stocks, screen flies for mutant phenotypes, isolate DNA from flies, etc).

Molecular work (i.e., PCR and cloning techniques)

Routine laboratory maintenance duties -- As time permits, will also perform routine laboratory duties: order and maintain lab equipment, supplies, and records; maintain cleanliness of lab; prepare buffers, media, and solutions. Dispenses biohazardous materials by autoclaving and bagging for disposal. Washes and sterilizes glassware, pipets, instruments and tips. Collects lab coats for laundry.

Perform other general duties as needed.

Certification/Skills:

General knowledge of research fields.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree or relevant experience in lieu of education.

Minimum Experience:

No years of experience.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds constantly and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.

Residency Requirement:
