Position Purpose:
Responsible for moving tractors and trailers on the premises, starting refrigeration units, preparing trucks for deliveries.
Essential Functions & Basic Duties:
Sets tractor trailer combinations for loading product scheduled for delivery.
Starts refrigeration units; checks units periodically.
Pulls loaded trailers away from dock and secures trailer doors.
Coordinates loading schedules with warehouse supervisors.
Ensures trucks have received pre-trip inspection prior to driver departure.
Notifies drivers of potential late load situations.
Ensures returning trucks are refueled, if necessary.
Assists warehouse personnel with unloading/cleaning trailers.
Operates powered industrial equipment such as electric pallet jacks and forklifts, as necessary.
Performs other duties as necessary and required.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
Ability to pass a written exam and road test.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
Understanding of related computer applications.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Prefer minimum of one year verified experience operating a tractor trailer
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Ability to speak, read and write English well
Safe driving skills, ability to drive large tractor trailers and ability to use forklifts and related delivery equipment
Ability to read maps and written directions
Ability to pass a post-offer employment physical and drug test and subsequent enrollment in a random pool of drivers for drug and alcohol testing as required by law
Strong Interpersonal, communication, organizational and customer service skills
Ability to communicate with co-workers and supervisors
Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.
