Shipping Supervisor (Project Management)
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position directs the shipping and receiving of tubular products. Duties include daily review of specifications to ensure the product is handled (loaded/unloaded) as required by American Petroleum Institute (API) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. This position also supervises the servicing of various types of production lines within the plant, with pipe for processing. These production lines include Casing Heat Treat, Cut-offs, Hydro-Tester, 5 Thread lines, EMI and UT Inspections, and Repair stations. This position is responsible for directing the unloading and loading of railcars at a Team Track that is off premises. The Rail unloading consists of logging cars and printing out bills for railcars and directing the unloading of the railcars. This position is responsible for Inventory Control. Inventory Control consists of monitoring our inventory as well as that of our customers to ensure that all movements are correct. This position is responsible for closing out the month. Month-end close consist of Shipments and Rack Transfers that must be entered into a computer system and shipped on a timely basis before month-end. On weekends, after hours, and holidays this position requires being the V ST liaison for customer releases, shipments, and inventory/production statuses.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Train hourly employees and ensure their safety. Take a leadership role in maintaining a union-free environment, fostering positive employee relations and ensure departmental compliance with all company, local, state, and federal regulations regarding EEO, environmental, safety, OSHA, etc. Ensure proper housekeeping (SS) and maintenance in storage area. Maintenance to include filling potholes and grading the roadways as well as applying dust suppressant. This will include rack construction and rack repair. Coordinate with carriers and shipping personnel to schedule trucks for loading/unloading to avoid demurrage. Plan and monitor the load/unload process to prevent demurrage, ensure productivity and safety. Schedule and coordinate shipments to and from outside inspection companies to prevent interference/delays in production processes. Assist in updating the computer (inventory) system for products shipped/received. Ensure the supply of product to and from production units. Plan and monitor product movement to ensure overall plant productivity and prevent/minimize unscheduled down time. Review inventory movement documents and perform physical audits daily to assure accuracy.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of oilfield tubular goods and various threads and grade types. 5-Year minimum work experience in inventory control and handling of oilfield pipe and tube. Minimum 5-years work experience in a supervisory capacity in the specified field or offsetting educational background.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND CERTIFICATIONS:
High school graduate with minimum 5 — year experience in the specified field or two years of college or a technical degree with two years of experience in a similar field. Current basic knowledge of DOT regulations and API handling and storage specifications.
CRITICAL COMPETENCIES & CAPABILITIES:
It is imperative that the actions of this position are well thought out and planned in advance, if possible, to eliminate any delays in the flow of activities within the plant operations which ultimately and substantially reduce the costs of producing the end product.
Spur of the moment decisions are made daily by this position to reduce or eliminate delays which may be the result due to equipment failure or increased activities.
Promote safety and well-being by means of safety training/education in the effort to reduce the possibility of bodily injury to fellow employees or incidents involving heavy equipment and/or machinery that is being utilized to perform the tasks of producing a quality product.
The necessity to maintain the integrity of product inventory is imperative to maintain customer satisfaction and assurance.
This position utilizes 4 supervisors on a rotating shift that provide around the clock coverage 7 days a week. Decisions are made at nights and on weekends for our department as well as other departments that call for information or a decision related to the operation of the plant. Majority of customer contacts occur during this time.
