Consultant, Letters of Credit (Finance)

Major Duties:
1. Schedules meetings with internal partners, speaking directly with clients, attorneys, and in house legal counsel regarding best practices, UCP/ISP rules as they apply to letters of credits.
2. Acts as first point of reference for day to day queries, and serves as liaison to related areas. Individual must be a subject matter expert on current Letter of Credit regulatory requirements and provide/document Risk Management/Mitigation feedback on all types of letter of credit transaction's.
3. Carries out relative complex, extensive, high profile activities e.g. direct interaction with committees and more senior management. Individual at times will be involved with guiding front line partners with specific wording on Credit Arrangement sheets and other underwriting documentation. Including and not limited to, negotiating with clients and attorneys ensuring that Northern Trust is not at risk.
4. Understand the underlying transaction giving rise to the issuance of a letter of credit and creatively arrive at an acceptable language that is both beneficial to client and the beneficiary while keeping within Northern best practice guidelines and Uniform Customs and Practice as well as the International Standby Practices rules and regulations and Incoterms in effect.
5. May lead projects as Subject matter expert and be involved with suggesting changes to current procedures and creating new procedures.
6. Act as back up, when necessary, to department manager in all aspects of decision making as it refers to letters of credit.
7. Carries out complex activities with significant financial, client, and/or internal business impact.
8. May have direct interaction with committees and/or Senior Management.
9. Able to serve as a key subject matter expert and mentor to other more junior level employees.
10. May manage daily operational activities and supervise day-to-day work of junior level employees (but not a formal management role).
11. More technically sound in area of expertise and has broader knowledge of other areas.
12. Delivers a work product that requires less revision.
13. Able to facilitate discussions and reach decisions.
Knowledge:
Excellent oral and written communication skills are required in order to effectively interact with clients, relationship Managers, and legal Department within Northern as well as client's Legal representatives.
Letter of Credit knowledge and expertise and knowledge of the following as it refers to letters of credit: Compliance, General Ledger, Swift, Loan booking, and documentation preparation (LDU).
Highly flexible and adaptable to change. Team player, trainer and leader.
Able to manage multiple priorities, projects, and tasks.
Experience :
A College or University degree or relevant proven letter of credit work experience in all aspects of Letter of Credit transactions ((i.e. issuance commercial, standby, and documentary collections is preferred.

Salary Range:
$66,700 - 113,300 USD
Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
