Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer, GEE(On-site) (Finance)
Position Overview:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is a key member of Insulet's Supplier Engineering team, which is part of Insulet's R&D organization. Insulet manages a global supply chain and sources precision components and commodities from around the world for use in its devices. The Senior Mechanical Engineer has several key roles on the team. First, s/he serves as coach and consultant to Supplier Engineers to resolve mechanical challenges that present during supplier component manufacturing. Reasons for engagement may include urgently investigating and remediating a critical quality issue, continuous improvement, or supporting the introduction of a new or modified component. Second, s/he will own high-value improvement projects, ranging from developing improved manufacturing processes, deploying automated inspection systems, redesigning packaging, and recommending and leading component and material changes to improve manufacturability. Finally, s/he will serve as a key resource to review and approve component-level print specifications to ensure GD&T is adhered to and that design for manufacturability is considered for all Insulet components.
The Ideal candidate will have significant experience with precision component manufacturing for high-volume assembled devices including precision plastics, metal stampings, screw manufacturing, and packaging design. The ideal candidate additionally has experience working with suppliers of custom precision components for use in medical devices, automotive, or another highly-regulated industry.
Responsibilities:
Leadership:
• The individual must be able to build the capability of others to assure successful project execution. This can include, but is not limited to improving business process systems, developing training aides and SOPs, and providing feedback to discipline owners for future designs.
• Advise teams of supplier engineers and quality engineers as they investigate and improve supplier processes, deploy tools and equipment at supplier facilities, and introduce new components to suppliers
• Become an expert on the mechanical systems of Insulet's device platforms, and provide day-to-day mechanical technical leadership to members of the Supplier Engineering team by being the subject matter expert on GD&T, principles of mechanical design, and equipment and automation knowledge
• Serve as the key signatory of Insulet component print specifications to ensure that GD&T has been adhered to and that design for manufacturability has been considered
Project:
• Lead critical root cause investigations and drive corrective action
• Lead continuous improvement projects, including identifying alternative, more efficient manufacturing methods, deploying automated inspection systems, improving packaging, as well as recommending and implementing component re-designs for manufacturability
• Design gauging and inspection fixtures/equipment in support of Insulet supplier metrology
• Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering
• 10 years of work experience in a regulated industry
Preferred Requirements:
• Demonstrated application and expertise with SolidWorks or Pro-E
• Experience and capability with statistical analysis using one of the following tools - Minitab, JMP, Statgraphics, Excel
Preferred Skills and Competencies:
• Ability to lead root cause investigation using a structured problem solving approach and concisely communicate progress
• Ability to manage cross-functional projects from concept to implementation, including the authoring and oversight of IQ/OQ/PQ protocols and reports for component manufacturing processes and secondary operations
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Expertise with Solidworks / Pro-E and one of SAS, JMP, or Minitab
• Working knowledge of MS Office, including Office Project software.
• Ability to travel domestically/Internationally - 30% max
• Six Sigma Process Improvement Experience/Certification preferred
• Outstanding team player who seeks and values diverse input to hone ideas, but who has the experience to develop strong starting proposals
• Highly-motivated, self-starter
• Appreciates the value of timelines and enjoys working in the focused environment that they create
Physical Requirements (if applicable):
• Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time

Additional Information:
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $114,450.00 - $171,675.00. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
