HHS Case Management Intern (Personal Services)

We lead with faith and service, shaping a better future for the neighbor in need, their family, and their community. This is an unpaid internship for 20 hours per week.
SCOPE OF WORK:
The Case Management Interns provide comprehensive case management and advocacy for residents in permanent supportive housing who have significant barriers to achieving self-sufficiency. This position will report to the site case manager to enhance support services within the context of Trauma Informed Care and client-centered Care, Strengthen Families, service integration, and resident engagement, and ensure high-quality case management at VOA permanent supportive houses in Baltimore City, Howard County, and Prince George County. This role shall work with the site case manager ensuring the provision of services that promote the resident's ability to participate in appropriate community activities and enable the individual to develop the daily living skills needed for independent functioning.
POSITION OBJECTIVE: The position will assist the case management team in providing support and services to residents interested in and/or participating in the program.
LEARNING OBJECTIVE: This position offers learning opportunities for students majoring in social servicerelated disciplines. The interns will receive direct supervision from the site case manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direct supervision site case manager, the HHS interns will support with the following:
Assist the site case manager in providing case management support services (i.e., information, in-home services, visitations, assessments, referrals, and linkages)
Assist with assessments and intakes;
Provide training for the residents including cultural orientation, transportation, life skills, job readiness training, banking, budgeting classes, and client rights and responsibilities;
Identify needs, and gaps and create solutions/trainings to address those needs and gaps;
Assist clients with connecting to community resources (including food banks, libraries, shelters, etc.);
Coordinate individual appointment logistics with health or social providers;
Provide transportation for client appointments, as needed;
Research community resources and continue to expand the resource lists;
Document all activities in case notes and send weekly client reports;
Assist with the development and implementation of surveys and/or other data collection documents;
Participate in monthly meetings, ongoing training and mentoring to ensure fidelity of the program case management model; and 12. Assist with the development of program initiatives as appropriate.
Note: All Internships are designed with the intern in mind. Interns are required to have a learning plan with their supervisors that aligns to the educational requirements from the educational institution and adheres to learning objectives.
Eligibility for Internship:
Must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate college or university.
Must be able to commit to a full semester, at least 20 hours per week (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter)
Provide a resume and 300 word cover letter, indicating internship choice and reason to be accepted.
Meeting the application submission deadline and including all required information.
Must have acceptable Criminal Background check, and Negative Drug Screening and TB Test/Chest XRay.
Exceptions may be made for internships required for the attainment of a professional certification under the guidance of a recognized professional certification board.

Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university Bachelor's degree program within a human service-related field such as Criminology, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Counseling, Special Education, Education, Human Development, Child Development, Family Development, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Nursing.
Ability to commit part-time hours of 20 hours/week, Monday-Friday 9am – 5pm.
