Electric Distribution Engineer (Manufacturing)
Prepare medium term (5 year) load projection plans to avoid overloading facilities while maximizing assets.
Create new and update existing electric construction standards.
Ensure that primary circuit design meets service reliability and operating needs for both normal and emergency loading conditions and perform fuse coordination for new and existing infrastructures.
Prepare substation feeder analysis showing all critical attributes including load allocation, load flow, voltage drop and fault current on substation and distributor systems.
Prepare calculations/simulations for fault current requests.
Coordinate and lead larger complex construction projects, that includes plan design, cost estimate, procuring easements, permits, and line extension contracts.
Work with the Electric System Engineer on the long-term capital replacement plans and design for improving the electric distribution system.
Oversee the smart grid system operation and maintenance.
Develop and maintain a distribution preventative maintenance program.
Prepare appropriate reports for management on operations and technical data related to the Electric Distribution System.
Assist commercial and industrial customers on aspects of electric service and future planning for their facilities.
Oversee the technical and administrative portions of the Distributed Generation Program.
Assist GIS personnel on electrical infrastructure and ensure quality and accuracy are maintained.
Provide technical assistance to Electric Distribution field personnel.
Assist warehouse personnel with electrical inventory needs and part selection.
Perform all other tasks as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program, or equivalent education and experience.
Familiarity with electric distribution software for system analysis; GIS mapping systems; and Microsoft office software.
Working knowledge of Michigan electrical standards.
Valid Michigan driver's license.
Ability to make complex mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy.
Interpersonal skills necessary to provide courteous and accurate information and responses to community members, vendors and various levels of BPW personnel in situations requiring tact and patience.
Preferred Qualifications
PE License
Electric utility or bulk power experience.
Effective workplace skills as demonstrated through WorkKeys assessments (Workplace Documents - 5, Applied Math - 5, Graphic Literacy - 5).
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Normal office environment with minimum discomfort due to noise, dirt and dust.
Periodic work at construction site locations and customer premises.
Must be able to sit/stand in one position for extended periods of time.
Mental ability to work on projects requiring concentration and attention to detail with periodic disruptions due to people and/or telephone calls.
