The Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (LRCP) administers cardiopulmonary care to patients of all ages with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system. Compliance with rules and regulations of all applicable federal, state and local laws as well as PMHC policies is a condition of employment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Incumbent must have the skills, ability and judgment to perform the following essential job duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation:
1. Performs cardiopulmonary care to patients of all ages within the hospital. Provides diagnostic testing for Electrocardiograms and Pulmonary Function Testing.
2. Assesses data regarding customers procedure based on age and condition.
3. Explains, instructs, teaches customers to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.
4. Provides and instructs customers and/or families, or significant others with information appropriate for age and learning abilities, in a professional, knowledgeable, thorough, and accurate manner.
5. Operates and maintains respiratory equipment according to manufacturers specifications.
6. Maintains and replenishes departmental supplies.
7. Maintains and keeps clean department.
8. Cleans all respiratory equipment according to manufacturers specifications.
9. Transports customers safely to and from room/department.
10. Assists in scheduling and paperwork procedures.
11. Assists in scheduling, faxing, telephone calls, paperwork, procedures, follow- up calls for sleep studies, etc.
12. Reports equipment failures to appropriate person for repair.
13. Assists in data collection for Quality Assurance/Improvement.
14. Delivers oxygen therapy according to physician order and/or policy.
15. Provides aerosol therapy by either all purpose nebulizer, croup tent, ultra sonic nebulizer, in a timely, knowledgeable manner. According to physician order and/or policy.
16. Delivers pulmonary pharmacology agents in a timely, accurate and knowledgeable manner according to physician order and/or policy.
17. Facilitates mucous clearance through chest physiotherapy, PEP therapy, acapella therapy, IPV, in a timely and knowledgeable manner. According to physicians order and/or policy.
18. Assesses pulmonary condition/status in patients of all ages within the hospital.
19. Provides ventilatory support by either mechanical ventilation, Bi-PAP or CPAP.
20. Obtains specimens for various laboratory studies.
21. Provides emergency care for airway management/ resuscitation.
22. Takes, transcribes and carries out physicians orders.
23. Is proficient in computer documentation.
24. Completes charging of respiratory procedures.
25. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
26. Presents a professional, pleasant and positive image.
27. Greets guests promptly and courteously.
28. Assists in orientation of new therapists, paramedics and students.
29. Responsible for personal development and continuing education compliance.
30. Responsible for rotation of department coverage duties.
31. Communicates with medical, nursing and other staff members, patients, and families.
32. Other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, employees occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
The level of risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens is Classification I, as outlined in the Hepatitis B Vaccine Program Policy.

REQUIRED EDUCATION
Completion of degree from an approved Respiratory Care program.
COMPETENCIES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Currently licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State of Nebraska.Current BLS/CPR certification.Current ACLS certification.
