Outboard Technician (Maintenance)
Responsibilities
Diagnosis and repair boat engines, systems or mechanical components according to requirementsInspect outboards, inboards and sterndrive engines and, transmissions etc. and run diagnostic tests to discover functionality issuesConduct repairs aiming for maximum reliabilityTroubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely mannerPerform thorough maintenance on customer as well as yard owned machinery, equipment and systemsClean and apply lubricants to machinery componentsReplenish fluids and components of engines and machineryProvide consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to management and vessel usersUndertake other marine and boat related duties as assignedKeep logs of work and report on issues
Skills
Proven experience as Mercury or Suzuki Certified Marine Mechanic. Entry level and/or non-certified marine mechanics are also considered. We will provide training.Excellent knowledge of marine engines, electrical and other systems and their componentsAptitude in using various hand tools (screwdrivers, hammers etc.) and precision measurement tools (e.g. calipers)Ability to follow established procedures and practices and read instruction, blueprints etc.A strong commitment to all health and safety guidelinesVery good communication skillsA problem-solving abilityHigh school diploma is preferred; Certification from a vocational school or Mercury University is a definite plus
Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training.Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area.Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately.
Technical and Physical Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent preferredTechnical school training preferred5 years experience preferredABYC and/or manufacturer certifications preferredAbility to ascend and descend a ladderMust carry own toolsAbility to work in confined spacesAbility to lift 50 poundsBasic boat handling skills preferredExperience with both gas and diesel engines preferred
